Structural Integrative Bodywork

Structural Integrative Bodywork (SI) is a method that unwinds patterns of strain that have developed over time within a person’s structure/posture. Through repeated actions, trauma is stored within the myofascial connective tissue system. By creating space and changing the patterns held in the connective tissue, lasting and progressive change in the body is possible. Patterns, tension and compensations to those patterns, ease, along with the pain and discomfort associated within these patterns. Healthy new patterns, natural balance and alignment, and ease in movement are reestablished in a methodical series that is easily understood by the body’s myofascial system, the fascia.

If we have peace within us, peace will follow others too. Then the world is also in peace.

My approach to SI is mostly influenced by Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI), as taught by Tom Myers. Using Myers “Anatomy Trains” myofascial meridians as a roadmap, a strategy is developed for the individual to achieve positive outcomes. Developing a posture of greater ease to navigate the environment. Ease of movement. Ease of breath.

The seed you plant in your awareness becomes the fruit you ultimately taste.

The 12 session series is a progressive treatment plan with each session building upon the previous session, bringing integration and balance to the body’s structure. Thereby giving you the chance to perform at your best level — don’t just survive — but thrive and open the space within your body.

Dallas brings a breadth of knowledge and an intuitive depth of awareness that is both practical and profound. I strongly believe that Dallas and his method of Structural Integration have greatly enhanced my health on every level.

Fascia — the space where the work is done.

In the body there is a unique tissue called fascia. It is the fabric that every cell in your body is woven into, giving us our shape and form. As a whole, fascia is the largest sensory organ in the body, and it is also our organ of expression and how we present and express ourselves to the world. This “space” is also the archival place where every experience we have ever had, good, bad and ecstatic, has been stored and expressed as patterns within this “fabric”. These patterns shape our form and dictate movement. They are shored up with adhesions to support the easiest way to perform our daily activities as comfortably as possible within your relationship with gravity. Manipulating this fabric and addressing your patterns through the “WORK”, new patterns can be established, creating a greater ease in your daily experience.

Before

After taking your full history and story of what brought you to SI, an extensive global posture assessment is used to uncover patterns, the “story”, and a strategy to resolve the pattern.

Assessment is done standing and in walking.

You then have a “before picture” to refer to as we head into the table work. You will be asked to move during treatment, assisting in the process.

There will be several times during the session that you will be asked to stand and feel and describe any differences.

After

Awareness homework will be given to further your integration process.

How does it feel?

What is different?

Things to Expect

You are asked to bring a swim suit or running ensemble, something you are comfortable with, as you will be up and down a few times during the session.

CHANGE: In many ways expect freedom of and in movement. Reduced levels of pain, tension and stress and in your relationship with gravity and an ease of self.

SENSATION: A big question that gets asked is “does it hurt?” My response to that is threefold.

  1. There are some moments that are uncomfortable that come with loosening and freeing strongly held, adhered patterns in the tissue. Some soreness may be felt the next day, similar to the feeling you have the day after a great workout the previous day.
  2. Everything is sensation. Pain is sensation with the intent to withdrawal. The intention of SI is to change that sensation to one of acceptance and ease.
  3. If you have come to me in pain that you have been experiencing for some time, and have not been able to find a positive solution to it, with SI, the opportunity for the pain patterns to go away, are much greater than any discomfort of treatment. Discomfort subsides as grace and ease are achieved.
